The development and implementation of community-orientated primary healthcare models
Prof. Jannie Hugo
Hugo heads the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pretoria (UP) and serves on the executive of the Health Professions Council of South Africa. He is a founder member of the Madibeng Centre for Research and is a director of the Rural Health Initiative. He leads the Community Orientated Primary Healthcare programme that has been implemented in Tshwane as a National Health Insurance Pilot. Hugo has published widely on the management of primary healthcare and healthcare services, district and rural health systems and training of healthcare workers in these settings.
About the talk: His presentation will focus on the development and implementation of community orientated primary healthcare models in Tshwane and their impact on healthcare service delivery and health outcomes. Hugo is an important partner to the CSIR Health Flagship, which is being implemented in Tshwane in partnership with UP’s Department of Family Medicine as an integral component of the community orientated primary healthcare approach. The impact and value of CSIR interventions will be highlighted in the presentation.
